Celebrating Chartered Accountants in India

Recommended for Chartered Accountants' Day

Chartered Accountants’ Day is observed annually on July 1 as a way to pay tribute to the 1949 passage of an act by the Indian Parliament that led to the founding of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

A chartered accountant (CA) is someone who is qualified to do a number of specific activities related to accountancy. A business, corporation or individual hires a chartered accountant to look after their financial and accounting (money) matters.

These matters are quite sensitive and require someone with expert knowledge to undertake them. Business people want to feel assured that their money issues are being handled without errors and without the worry of legal consequences.

Fun facts about a chartered accountant’s job!

  • These aspects include auditing financial statements, filing corporate tax returns and financial advising.
  • Chartered accountants usually work in 4 areas – taxation, financial accounting and reporting, applied finance and management reporting.
  • They can also oversee a business or corporation’s entire accountancy needs or only one specific function.
  • CA’s work in offices, though some work from home also. Sometimes they need to travel to their client’s workplaces too.
  • To be a CA, one needs to complete a bachelor’s level degree in business and accounting subjects, followed by an internship. There is also a specific programme in chartered accounting principles.
  • A person must be dedicated and hardworking in order to achieve the rank of CA, but the position is a well-respected one that pays well.
