China’s population declines after decades!
Recommended for Middle Grades
The year 2022 could mark a turning point when China’s population begins to fall. For the first time in almost 60 years, China’s population has begun to decrease.
Population experts claim it was the first dip of this magnitude in China’s population since a statewide famine in 1961. In addition, this marks a significant demographic shift for the world’s second-largest economy in 2022.
China’s population decreased by more than eight million in 2022.
Key facts!
- The National Bureau of Statistics in Beijing state the total number of people in the country had reached 1.4 billion in 2022.
