Close to Lunar Dreams: Chandrayaan-3!

Recommended for Chandrayaan-3

In the land of rockets and stars, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) had a dream. A dream to touch the cold, shimmering surface of the Moon. They called their dream Chandrayaan-3.

Okay, readers, imagine you’re playing with toy rockets. The Chandrayaan-3 is that cool rocket that’s trying to land perfectly on your play mat (which in this story, is the Moon). But first, it has to slow down. They call this “deboosting.” Fancy, right?

An Exciting Journey to the Moon: ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 Mission

  • Now, for this mission, the lander module had to slow down not once, but twice! And guess what? It did so with flying colors on August 18 and then again on August 20.
  • Just like you can’t see your toy in the dark, ISRO wants sunlight when they land on the Moon. They’re waiting for the perfect sunrise on the Moon’s surface. And then, on August 23, the real show begins! The Chandrayaan-3 plans to touch the Moon’s face at precisely 5:45 p.m. IST.
  • Mr. Somanath, the big boss at ISRO, says that sunlight is important. Why? Well, after the lander and rover touch down, they’ll be on a 14-day “Moon vacation”. The rover has a tiny solar panel that needs sunlight to charge its battery. Without it, the rover might just snooze off, and we wouldn’t want that!
  • Mr. Somanath gives us a chilly scoop: the Moon can get colder than your freezer at minus 40 degrees! Brrr! They’re hoping the battery and gadgets on the rover can brave this Big Freeze.
  • Life is full of “what ifs.” Like, what if it rains on your picnic day? Similarly, if the Moon landing doesn’t happen on August 23 because of some hiccup, ISRO will wait for another month. They’re super patient and want everything to be just right!
  • So, dear young astronauts, that’s the fun story of Chandrayaan-3. It’s a tale of dreams, science, and waiting for the right moment under the sun (or should we say, Moon?). As we wait for the grand finale, let’s send our best wishes to ISRO and Chandrayaan-3. To infinity and beyond!
