Recommended for Preparatory Grades
We have read a lot about climate emergency, climate protests, climate change movement and climate change study in schools.
During all these climate protests, the most commonly used word, ‘climate strike‘, has been named Collins Word of the Year 2019.
- Collins Dictionary defines the word “as a form of protest in which people absent themselves from education or work in order to join demonstrations demanding action to counter climate change“.
- The word was used 100 times more often in 2019, than as compared to 2018.
- About 1.6 million students walked out of classrooms during strikes across more than 120 countries this year.
- The word was first noted in November 2015 during a protest at the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris.
- In 2018, Collins Word of the Year was ‘single-use’. It refers to plastic products that are made to be used only once.
