Delhi government to launch overseas scholarship scheme for Dalit studentsThe Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi plans to launch a new scheme to fund higher studies overseas for Dalit students.

The scheme is for Dalit students who want to pursue M Phil and PhD courses in foreign universities. They can apply for the scholarship to study in the fields of art, agriculture, medicine, etc.

Delhi’s SC/ST (Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe) Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam said that the proposal will be put before the state cabinet soon.

Under the scheme, the government will provide financial assistance up to Rs 10 lakh for a two-year course; up to Rs 20 lakh for a four-year course.
 	This scheme will benefit 100 candidates.
 	Students whose families have an annual income under ₹6 lakh can apply for the scholarship.

Mr Gautam added that there are many talented people who can accomplish anything given equal opportunities. The AAP government wants to support them to realise the talent.

Last year, with a similar aim in mind, the Delhi government also launched the Jai Bhim Mukhyemantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana. Dalit students can avail free coaching for various exams like UPSC (Union Public Service Commission), bank exams, etc, through this scheme.

The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment also has a similar scheme in place. It provides financial support to 100 candidates each year under the National Overseas Scholarship for Scheduled Caste Students.
