“Eco bridge” for animals helps them cross the road in Uttarakhand

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Forest officials in Uttarakhand have built a unique eco bridge for animals, such as reptiles and other small creatures to cross a busy road.

The 27-metre “Eco Bridge” is made from bamboo, jute and grass. It is believed to be the first of its kind.

The bridge has been built along the busy Kaladhungi-Nainital highway. The highway is the main route to Nainital, which gets a lot of tourists.

The jungle by the highway is home to many animals like lizards, snakes, monkeys, leopards and squirrels. People in cars can see big animals like elephants and deer when they are crossing and they stop. But sadly, smaller animals like snakes and squirrels often get run over.

So, this eco bridge for animals will hopefully help them cross safely. Officials are now growing creepers and grass to attract animals to the bridge.

Officials have also fixed cameras on both sides of the bridge to keep a check on the movement of the animals. The eco bridge for animals has also become a tourist attraction now.
