Egypt’s oldest pyramid, Djoser Pyramid, opens to visitors after 14 yearsEgypt's oldest pyramid, the Pyramid of Djoser, has reopened to visitors after 14 years. It had been in very bad conditions and Egypt had closed it for repairs in 2006.

The renovation (repairs) cost around US$6.6 million and it reopened in March 2020.

What is the Pyramid of Djoser?

It is also known as the Step Pyramid and is 204-feet tall.
 	It was built 4,700 years ago as a tomb (place for the dead) for Pharaoh (king) Djoser.
 	It was designed by the Pharaoh's vizier (minister), Imhotep. Imhotep is also often considered to be the world's first architect.
 	The pyramid was surrounded by a temple, courtyards, and housing for priests as well as a 30-feet wall.

This pyramid had been neglected for very long and had been almost on the verge of collapse. Hence the need for renovations.

Who was Pharaoh Djoser?

Pharaoh Djoser (also read as Djeser and Zoser) was the first king of the Third Dynasty of Egypt. He is believed to have been king for a period of 20 to 30 years but this is not certain.
