Gobar-Dhan: Bio-CNG plant in Indore!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

We have an exciting story to share with our little readers. In a move towards clean energy, our country is the proud owner of a Bio-CNG plant. The plant is in one of the cleanest cities in India, Indore. Also, the project promises to be environmentally friendly, isn’t that cool?

Let’s understand a few key ideas used in this story.

What is Compressed Natural Gas?

Compressed Natural Gas, also known as CNG, is an eco-friendly alternative to gasoline.

What is Bio-CNG?

Bio-CNG, or compressed biogas, is a methane-rich compressed fuel. In terms of fuel properties, efficiency, fuel efficiency, and emissions, it is very similar to normal CNG.

Gobar-Dhan: Bio-CNG plant

The idea of the Bio-CNG plant is a remarkable effort to provide cleaner urban spaces. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Gobar-Dhan plant in Indore via video conferencing.

Above all, the Bio-CNG plant’s effort is important, as the wet waste released from households, animals, and farms in settlements is “in a way Gobar Dhan.”

Compressed National Gas from Agriculture waste – The Process!

Let’s understand this environment-friendly process. Firstly, the waste is treated with a solution that creates gas. Secondly, the gas is cleaned and compressed before being used in automobiles.

Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0

Similar Bio-CNG facilities will be installed in 75 major municipal bodies around the country. This would take place in the next two years. In conclusion, these efforts go a long way in making India’s cities clean, pollution-free, and energy-efficient.

The municipal solid waste-based Gobar-Dhan plant is aligned to the idea of “garbage-free cities” or  “Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0“.
