Growing Minds: How Feelings Shape Us!

Hey there, curious minds! Did you know that scientists have discovered some interesting business happening in the very earliest moments of life? They’ve found some clues about a tricky brain condition called schizophrenia.

Let’s dive into the details and unravel this mystery!

Schizophrenia’s Sneaky Clues!

  • Researchers led by the awesome Eduardo Maury from Harvard Medical School went on a genetic treasure hunt. They looked at the genes of nearly 25,000 people to find out more about schizophrenia. Guess what they found? Two genes, called NRXN1 and ABCB11, that could be linked to this tricky condition.
  • Here’s the thing, pals: Schizophrenia is a brain condition that can make a person’s thoughts and beliefs a bit wonky. It happens because of a mix of genetics and other things that happen around us. Scientists used to think it was all about what we inherit from our parents! But now they believe some sneaky changes can happen before we even see the world.
  • So, what does all this mean? Well, it means that we might have a chance to prevent schizophrenia if we catch those sneaky changes early enough. These discoveries about NRXN1 and ABCB11 genes are like breadcrumbs that could lead scientists to find ways to stop schizophrenia in its tracks.
  • Remember, this brain puzzle affects about 1 in 300 people worldwide, usually when they’re all grown up. But the clues suggest that the seeds of this tricky condition might be planted when we’re just tiny, growing inside our mommies.
  • So, stay curious, my friends! Scientists are always looking for answers, and one day they might crack the code to prevent this comical brain twist. Keep exploring, keep learning, and who knows what amazing discoveries we’ll uncover in the future!
