Gurtej Sandhu – The Indian inventor with more than a thousand patentsThere are many people around us who keep us inspiring with their achievements.

Gurtej Sandhu is one such person. Mr Sandhu is an inventor. He is an NRI (Non-resident Indian) and lives in the United States. Till date, he has 1,325 patents* for inventions to his name!

He is considered to be one of India's greatest inventors. He ranks 7th on the list of most prolific (productive) inventors in the world.

Gurtej Sandhu graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Delhi.
 	He then went on to pursue a PhD in Physics from the University of North Carolina, US.

Apart from being an inventor, Gurtej Sandhu is also currently, the Vice President of Micron Technology, a company that produces computer memory chips.

Gurtej got his first few patents during his initial days of working at Micron Technology.
 	He developed the method to accommodate more memory units into computer memory chips. Chip manufacturers around the world are using Gurtej's patents.
 	He has also been experimenting with self-driving cars.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) rewarded Mr Sandhu the 2018 Andrew S. Grove Award for his outstanding contributions to solid-state devices and technology.

*Patent: It is a form of ownership on one's invention. It gives legal right to the person and excludes anyone else from making, using, selling the item without the permission of the patent holder.
