Hijab Controversy  raised in Karnataka

In January 2022, a dispute arose in a junior college in Karnataka. Muslim girls wearing hijab were denied entry into the classrooms.

What is hijab?

A hijab is religious head covering worn by Muslim women in public.

The Karnataka government issued an order which stated that uniforms should be worn compulsorily.  There would be no exception of wearing the hijab alongside the uniform.

According to the high court orders, the girls were asked to remove their hijab at the school gates.

Girls opposed the school decision

The girls and their parents have filed petitions in the Karnataka High Court. They said that wearing the hijab is a personal choice and they cannot remove it.

The orders to not wear hijab inside the institutes has affected the students. Some students have accepted the orders while some students have stopped attending the classes.

The matter around hijab-wearing is still tense in Karnataka. This matter is being closely watched and the High Court bench is listening to the arguments. Some people support hijab-wearing while others are against it. Nothing can be concluded until the court releases the decision.
