Hospitals in Canada use drone to deliver lungs for transplant

A drone to deliver lungs
We have read about drones and we use them for many things – to protect animals, deliver food, books, and guard forests.
Now, hospitals in Toronto, Canada used them to transport lungs for transplant surgery.
When an organ in the body fails, doctors try to do a transplant (with a fresh part from a donor). This is possible for parts like kidneys, hearts, and lungs. However, the donated organ needs to keep transplanted as soon as possible. While people usually use cars or helicopters to deliver them quickly, drones could be the new faster way to do it.
A drone to deliver lungs
This drone is a 15.5-kilogram drone built by a Canadian company called Unither Bioelectronics. On its recent maiden (first) flight, it flew from Toronto Western Hospital to the roof of the downtown Toronto General Hospital nearby. It was carrying the lungs in a refrigerated box. The trip took less than 10 minutes. This is one of the first times that a drone has delivered an organ for transplant.
At Toronto General Hospital, a team of doctors received the package and quickly conducted the surgery on a 73-year-old man. The surgery was successful and saved his life. The doctors said lungs are among “the most fragile of all organs to preserve and transport”.
This was just a test run but if all goes well, using drones for such deliveries will save time by avoiding traffic.
