COVID-19

Cases in India are steadily on the rise with 41,810 new infections in the last 24 hours. The number of reported cases has reached almost 9.4 million. Over 8.8 million of those have recovered.

PM Modi has called an all-party meeting of party leaders in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha on 4 December to discuss the COVID-19 situation.

Meanwhile, the Serum Institute of India is planning to apply for an emergency use license of the coronavirus vaccine being developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca. The Serum Institute is manufacturing this vaccine in India.

Cyclone in Tamil Nadu

After Cyclone Nivar, Tamil Nadu is expecting another storm on 2 December.

Business

Indian secondhand car sale website Cars24 has seen a big rise in business during the pandemic. People avoid using public transport. So they are going in for used vehicles.

The company is now being valued at more than US$1billion making it a "unicorn". A unicorn refers to a start-up (private business) that is valued at more than US$1billion. This includes big names such as Uber and Airbnb.

Farmers protest

Farmers have been protesting against the new farm laws.  A large number of farmers continue to protest at the Delhi-Haryana border. They have rejected the centre's offer to move the protests to Burari in Delhi.

Both the border points at Singhu and Tikri are currently closed. Medical camps have been set up at the border to stop the spread of COVID-19.
