Indian Army officer achieves world records for solo cycling

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Indian Army officer Bharat Pannu recently achieved two Guinness World Records for solo cycling. He is a Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) in the Indian Army.

His first achievement was when he cycled from Leh (Ladakh) to Manali (Himachal Pradesh) on 10 October 2020. This is a distance of 472 kilometres. He covered in just 35 hours and 25 minutes, which is the fastest ever by cycle. This journey usually takes about 11 hours even by car or bus. And the route is also difficult at times as you have to cross over ice-covered mountains, broken roads and even flowing streams.

He also created a second record in the same month by completing the fastest cycle journey of the ‘Golden Quadrilateral’ route. This route connects Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata and is 5,942 km long. He achieved this world record in 14 days, 23 hours and 52 minutes.

Many people on social media congratulated Lt Col Pannu on his achievement.
