Indian sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik wins award in the U.S.

Indian sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik wins award in the U.S.Renowned Indian sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik won the People’s Choice Award at the 2019 Revere Beach International Sand Sculpting Festival in Boston, US.

He won the award for his sand sculpture ‘Stop Plastic Pollution, Save Our Ocean’.
 	The sculpture showed a turtle caught in a plastic bag. It also showed a fish with plastic trash such as slippers, bottles and glass inside its body. The tail of the fish is in the mouth of a human. It shows how plastic pollution in the oceans also negatively affects human beings when they consume seafood.
 	Mr Pattnaik is known to use his art to convey social messages.

India’s Consul General in New York, Sandeep Chakravorty, congratulated Mr Pattnaik. Many Indians also came to the festival to support him.

Revere Beach International Sand Sculpting Festival

It is one of the largest sand sculpting festivals in the world.
 	The non-profit organisation Revere Beach Partnership hosts the festival.
 	It was held from 26th to 28th July 2019 and almost a million people attended.
 	Mr Pattnaik was the only participant from India and Asia.
 	Belgian and Canadian artists also won prizes at the competition.
