Indian student uses recycled plastic to make bricksAbhishek Banerjee, an Indian engineering student has come up with an inspired idea to reuse plastic to make bricks called Plastiqube.

How did he come up with this idea?

During a field trip to a brick kiln (factory), he saw the harsh conditions that workers have to work in. So, he came up with this idea to help the workers and also to save the environment. Brick kilns also produce dangerous dust and gases that cause health problems.
 	Hence, Abhishek, along with Agnimitra Sengupta, Ankan Podder and Utsav Bhattacharyya (his classmates from Jadavpur University, West Bengal) started a company called Qube, which makes the Plastiqube.

What is Plastiqube?

Each Plastiqube brick is made from 1.6 kg of waste plastic that the team collects with the help of garbage collectors.
 	It is light and designed like lego pieces - each piece can interlock with the next.
 	A Plastiqube brick costs ₹5 - ₹6, while normal clay brick sells for about ₹10.
 	They are currently testing it for durability and fire resistance.

Abhishek has received recognition for his work from the United Nations, Jadavpur University and other organisations. He encourages young engineers and entrepreneurs to dream big, but also think about their impact on the environment.
