ISRO announces that India will have a separate space station

ISRO announces that India will have a separate space stationThe Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced that India is ready to set up its own space station, in the next 5-7 years.

It will be launched as a small module* and will be much smaller than the International Space Station.
 	This module will be used to carry out small micro-gravity experiments.
 	The Indian Space Station will also be placed in orbit 400 km above the Earth's surface, just like the International Space Station.
 	The project is still in its early stages, and the costs are yet to be determined.

This is going to be India's biggest leap into space exploration.

Earlier in 2013, India's Mangalyaan entered into Mars' orbit in its first attempt.
 	Gaganyaan, India's first manned mission is scheduled for August 2022. It aims to send a 2-3 person crew to space for a period of 7 days.

Currently, the International Space Station is the only space Station with a human crew from countries like Europe, the US, Russia, Japan and Canada.

*Module: a part of a spacecraft that can operate independently from the main part.
