ISRO launches historic 50th PSLV flight carrying Radar Imaging Satellite

ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) had launched the Cartosat-3 satellite in November.
Today, ISRO launched the Radar Imaging Satellite RISAT-2BR1.
The launch is more special because RISAT-2BR1 is on the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLVC48) in its 50th flight to space.
- RISAT-2BR1 launched at 3:15 pm from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota.
- The countdown for the launch began on Tuesday at 4:40 pm.
- The launch also marks the 75th vehicle launch or mission from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh
- RISAT-2BR1 weighs 628 kg and carries applications that will help in the field of agriculture, disaster management and forestry. Its mission duration is 5 years.
- The PSLV also carried 9 foreign satellites, which have been put into orbit. There are 6 satellites from the US and one each from Italy, Israel and Japan.
- The foreign satellites are carried under a commercial contract with the New Space India Limited (NSIL).
- RISAT-2BR1 was launched after the successful launch of RISAT-2B in May this year.
RISAT is the name of a series of Indian radar imaging reconnaissance (survey and report) satellites. The RISAT-2BR1 is the fourth satellite of this series.
