ISRO launches Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle.
The Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) has launched a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle(PSLV) with two small co-passenger satellites. The vehicle has launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
This is ISRO’s first launch mission of 2022. The name of the mission is PSLV-C52/EOS-04 Mission.
What is an Earth Observation Satellite?
An Earth observation satellite is a satellite designed for Earth observation (EO) from orbit.
ISRO’s PSLV-C52 Mission
- The launch vehicle PSLV-C52 will orbit the earth observation satellite EOS-04.
- It weighs 1,710kg into a sun-synchronous polar orbit of 529 km.
- Earth Observation Satellite(EOS) is designed to provide high-quality images of agriculture, forestry, plantations and soil moisture.
- The EOS-04 satellite can take pictures in all weather conditions.
What’s more in the PSLV-C52 mission?
- The two smaller satellites include a student satellite INSPIREsat-1 from the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology(IIST).
- The other small satellite is a demonstrator satellite INS-2TD from ISRO. This satellite is used to assess the land and water surface temperature.
- The space agency has plans to conduct the PSLV-C53 mission in March. This mission will carry OCEANSAT-3 and INS2B ANAND into the Earth orbit. This looks interesting.
