This holds true for Moirangthem Loiya from Manipur, who has been saving the environment for the last 18 years.

In the year 2000, on returning home to Imphal, Manipur after completing his college studies, he saw the barren mountains which disheartened him.

So, he quit his regular job and decided to do something about it.
 	Mr Loiya moved to this forest and built himself a small hut. He planted bamboo, oak, magnolia, teak, and jackfruit trees, for almost six years.
 	Today, he is almost single-handedly responsible for planting a 300-acre forest named Punshilok, in the Langol Hill Range.
 	Punshilok means ‘Spring of life’ in the Manipuri language.
 	The forest is flourishing, with natural springs irrigating the area.

Mr Loiya and his friends have also established the Wildlife and Habitat Protection Society (WAHPS), which is also supported by the local forest department. They look after the protection and conservation of Punshilok.

Punshilok forest has around 250 species of plants, 25 species of bamboo, a variety of birds, snakes and wild animals like barking deer, pangolin, porcupine, mongoose, leopard cat, etc.
