Meet XBB.1.16: The Tricky Germ Making People Sick!

During the COVID-19 pandemic, scientists in India have been studying a new variant of the virus that causes the illness. This variant is called XBB.1.16. It is also known as the Omicron recombinant.
The COVID-19 pandemic is a disease that has affected many people around the world. Firstly, it started in December 2019 in a city called Wuhan in China. Secondly, sickness comes from a tiny thing called a virus. This virus is called SARS-CoV-2. Thirdly, it spreads from person to person through tiny droplets in the air.
Importantly, to stop the virus from spreading, people were asked to stay at home, wear masks, and wash their hands often. Scientists have worked hard to create vaccines to help protect people from getting sick.
Omicron recombinant or XBB.1.16 is a new type of COVID-19 virus that was discovered in November 2021. Scientists are working hard to understand this new variant and how XBB.1.16 might affect people’s health.
