National award honouree builds a school brick-by-brick!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

National award honouree Umesh T.P. has been steadily constructing a school’s infrastructure over the course of the past 12 years.

He is a teacher at a government lower primary school. He is also the recipient of a national award from the Union Ministry of Education.

Umesh believes that as of today not only is the school infrastructure sound, but the students exhibit a high level of self-assurance. They are broadcasting their programmes on All-India Radio.

Key Facts!

  • In 2010 Umesh moved to the remote village of Amruthapura in Karnataka.
  • The majority of natives are members of the backward Golla community.
  • The school in Amruthapura was not in working condition when Umesh first arrived in 2010.
  • However, he took the help of locals and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to gradually develop the infrastructure.
  • This included the building, toilets, drinking water, and a school compound, amongst other things.
  • As a result, the school received recognition as one of the best in the country.
  • In addition to teaching the students through online classes, he oversaw the implementation of school projects in nearby villages as well.
  • In addition, he is the author of six books, and in 2021, he was awarded the Uttam Teacher Award by the state.

Here’s a clip of the National Award presented to Umesh T.P. by our honourable President of India.
