Nestlé, the famous food and drink company is going to launch biodegradable^ paper wrapping for the new Yes! snack bars later this month.

 

• This new wrapping has been developed by the company’s research centre in York, England.
• The paper wrapper can biodegrade within 6 months.
• Nestlé doesn’t plan to patent* this technology as it wants to encourage other companies also to use this packaging method.
• The company has stopped using plastic straws with its products. It is now using eco-friendly paper straws.
• Nestlé plans to make all its packaging reusable by 2025.

 

Last year, Nestlé was declared as one of the top producers of plastic waste in the world, along with Pepsi and Coke.

Now it is trying to shed this unfavorable tag and do something good for the environment.

^Biodegradable: Capable of being decomposed by bacteria or other living organisms avoiding pollution.

*Patent: sole right to make, use or sell something for a period of time.
