New e-skin innovation for robots and prosthetics

New e-skin innovation for robots and prostheticsA team of researchers at the National University of Singapore have developed a new kind of electronic skin. This innovation* is led by Assistant Professor Benjamin Tee.

An artificial* nervous system called the Asynchronous* Coded Electronic Skin (ACES) supports this e-skin.
 	With the help of ACES, robots and prosthetic* devices may soon have a sense of touch just like the human skin!

This new e-skin responds 1000 times faster than the human touch.

This new innovation can pair with any kind of sensor skin layer to function effectively as an 'electronic' skin.
 	This is useful for robots to understand the physical environment better.
 	It will also be very helpful for people who need to use prosthetics. It may help them restore their sense of touch.

Currently, electronic skins are quick to damage and difficult to upgrade. This new invention may change all that.

*Asynchronous: Not occurring at the same time.
