New eye drops, Vuity improves near vision

As the people get into their 40s, their close vision starts to get worse. This condition is called presbyopia.

What is presbyopia?

Presbyopia is the loss of eyes’ ability to focus on nearby objects.

Presbyopia affects 128 million people in the United States and more than a billion people worldwide.

Treatment for Presbyopia

In 2021, the US Food and Drug Administration have approved a new eye drop named Vuity, for the treatment of presbyopia. Experts say that eye drops allow people to see nearby things clearly. Researchers have said that the drops are most effective for people under 55 years old.

Vuity, new eye drops

The new eye drops are made up of the ingredient called pilocarpine. Pilocarpine helps to restore the eyes to reduce the size of the pupil. It also helps the eyes to focus.

The eye drop improves your new vision to make the eye pupil smaller. It helps in improving the near vision but it doesn’t reverse presbyopia.

Results of the trial

The researchers conducted clinical trials with 750 people. The people are of the ages 40 to 55 years old and are suffering from presbyopia.

As a result of the trials, a large percentage of patients were able to improve their near vision by 3 lines. Though, the result may vary from person to person. The result depends upon factors like age and their near vision.

The new eye drops, Vuity is said to work best on younger adults with mild cases of presbyopia. Ain’t it interesting?
