New ‘smart skin’ to help you feel real human touchWe make audio and video calls on our phones. This helps us talk to or see someone who is not nearby. Now, scientists are also trying to develop a 'smart skin' technology that can help you feel the touch of a person when they are far away.
Key facts

John Rogers is a professor of bioengineering. He along with his team at Northwestern University, US have created a tool that can make virtual touch a real experience.
 	They have invented a device, which is a wireless light sheet and has no batteries or bulky attachments.
 	This device passes the sensation of touch using vibrations, pressure, motion etc.
 	Also called the ‘smart skin’, the device can contour or outline the body and send across the sensory signal of touch.
 	The sense of touch works both ways. So if you pat on the device while talking to a friend on a video call, your friend can feel your pat.

The potential uses and applications of this technology are huge.

Virtual touch sensation can be used in video games, social media or for business video conferences.
 	It can also be helpful in the medical field, such as prosthetics for amputees.
 	Mr Roger and his team are currently working with stroke patients. They are trying to use this technology to help them swallow food.
