New study says honey is better than medicine for cough and cold
Recommended for Preparatory Grades
Ahoy, insatiable reader! Did you know that honey is not just sweet and yummy, but it’s also been used as a medicine for thousands of years? Yep, ancient Egyptians and Greeks knew all about its special powers!
Honey: The Super Remedy!
- Guess what? Some super smart scientists from the University of Oxford have been studying honey, and they say it might be even better than regular medicine for coughs, blocked noses, and sore throats. They looked at 14 different studies with around 1700 people to figure this out. These studies compared honey to other medicines to see which one worked better.
- The scientists found out that honey is more effective than regular medicine in making people feel better, especially when it comes to reducing those annoying coughs. Isn’t that funny? Honey, the sweet stuff, can actually help with coughs!
- But wait, there’s more! Honey has some other awesome benefits too. It’s super cheap, easy to find in the store, and it hardly has any side-effects. That means it’s a pretty safe and yummy option for treating coughs and stuffy noses.
- However, even though honey is great, there are a few things to remember. The scientists say that they need to do more studies and research to be absolutely sure about honey’s powers. Also, it’s not a good idea to give honey to babies who are younger than one year old. Their immune systems are still growing, and honey can cause a rare but serious disease called botulism.
- So, honey is like a sweet superhero that can help you feel better when you’re sick. Just remember to check with a grown-up before using it, and never give it to babies under one year old. Honey is an amazing natural remedy that people have used for ages, and now scientists are saying it’s pretty awesome too!
