Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison passes awayNobel Prize-winning US author Toni Morrison has died at the age of 88. She passed away on 6th August at the Montefiore Medical Center in New York.
The Morrison family has said that they would like to thank everyone for their support during this difficult time.

Ms Morisson was born Chloe Anthony Wofford on 18th February 1931 in Lorain, Ohio, US.
 	Ms Morrison won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1993.
 	In 2012, US President Barack Obama also presented her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This is the highest civilian honour in the United States.

Ms Morrison wrote more than a dozen novels. Her books like Beloved and The Bluest Eyes were some of the most well known. Beloved was made into a film starring Oprah Winfrey in 1998.

She wrote on themes about the sufferings of the African-American community and was always supportive of other African-American writers. She was a much-loved author and personality, not only in the US but also all over the world.

Artists and politicians like former US presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce, etc have expressed their condolences. Additionally, many people around the world have mourned her passing on social media.
