Nora Al Matrooshi makes space in Forbes list.

Nora Al Matrooshi has made her space in the Forbes list of 5 Arab women who made history in 2021. She is the first female Arab astronaut.

Nora’s journey

She is the first woman astronaut from the UAE to go to space. She was selected for the second batch of the UAE Astronaut Program in April 2021.

The Emirati astronaut will be trained with the NASA space agency for future space missions. She joined the NASA  candidate class on 1st January 2022.

According to the Forbes list, Nora will start two years of training at NASA in Houston, Texas. She will represent Arab women in the global aerospace industry.

Astronaut Program 2021-2022

The astronauts selected for the program will train in five major categories in the next two years of the programme. The programme categories include operating and maintaining the International Space Station‘s complex systems. They will be trained for spacewalks and will develop complex robotics skills. They will also learn to operate a T-38 training jet and Russian language skills.

When the astronauts will clear the programme, they will be assigned missions that involve research aboard the ISS or to undertake space missions.

Nora Al Matrooshi is a mechanical engineer from the UAE University. She aspires to develop the space sector in the UAE further. She also wishes to land on the Moon in an Emirati spacecraft.

  2. Tunisian tennis star, Ons Jabeur
  3.  Cofounders of e-commerce company, Mumzworld: Mona Ataya and Leena Khalil
