Durban is a city in South Africa but can you guess its connection with India? Well, it was in Durban that Mahatma Gandhi became a part of politics. He fought for the rights of the Indians and native Africans here, before returning to India.

Fun facts about Durban!

  • Durban is located along the Umgeni River. 
  • The city is warm throughout the year.
  • It’s best to visit from June to August when it’s not too hot.
  • The original or ethnic people of South Africa are known as Zulu.
  • To learn more about them you can visit the Shakaland and PheZulu Safari Park in Durban.
  • Moreover, there are many Indians also residing in the city today.
  • Durban has wonderful marine and sea animals, museums, green areas and of course, nice warm beaches.
  • The uShaka Marine World is the 5th largest aquarium in the world. You can watch the dolphins and fish and also enjoy water rides.
  • The People’s Park at the huge Moses Mabhida Stadium is a lot of fun for children.
  • Also, the stadium was where the 2010 FIFA World Cup took place!
  • Take a ride on the oldest steam trains on the Umgeni Railway.
  • You can also try out the delicious Bunny Chow which is a dish made from bread filled with curry.
