Meet Orion Jean: TIME Kid of the year
Orion Jean, 11-year-old, is TIME kid of the year 2021. He became the second TIME kid of the year. He leads campaigns where he helps the people of the community. The platform is called Race to Kindness.
Campaigns to spread joy
Orion started his first campaign in 2020. He won the National Kindness Speech Contest in 2020. The boy believes that kindness is a quality we all can have.
He won a prize of $500 prize from the speech contest and he used it to buy toys. The boy showed his kindness and gave the toys to patients at a children’s hospital in Texas. As a result, he started the campaign Race to 500 Toys.
Other Campaigns by Orion Jean
This was just the beginning for Orion. He teamed with other people to collect thousands of meals for the hungry people. He also started a campaign to distribute books to needy students. Also, he has worked with organizations to collect a million books in just a few months.
Orion believes that when people team up for a common cause, great things can happen. He became the first black person to become TIME kid of the year.
