Padma Awards 2022!

Recommended for Middle Grades

Padma Awards is one of the country’s most prestigious honours for citizens. Presented by the President of India, these medals are granted to Indian citizens who have displayed remarkable and distinguished service in any field.

There are three levels of Padma Awards: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, each with its own set of honours. On March 21, 2022, President Ram Nath Kovind gave the Padma awards to 54 people, including the first Chief of the Defense Staff (CDS) and the head of Tata Sons.

Notable winners of Padma Vibhushan!

The second-highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan, was presented posthumously to Gen. Rawat and Khemka, who ran the Gita Press, noted for publishing Hindu holy literature. The ceremony took place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Gen. Rawat’s daughters received the prize, while a member of his family received the award for Khemka.

Padma Bhushan Award Recipients!

Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian honour, was given to Mr Azad, Mr Chandrasekaran, Mr Mehrishi, Cyrus Poonawalla, the founder of Serum Institute of India, the producer of Covishield vaccine. The award was also presented to para-athlete and javelin thrower Devendra Jhajharia, and six others.

“Unsung heroes” like Swami Sivananda, a 125-year-old yoga teacher, were among the recipients of the Padma Bhushan. The audience clapped as the white kurta-dhoti-clad Sivananda bowed before Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who rose to his feet and bowed in return.

Second Ceremony on 28 March!

Every year, on the eve of Republic Day, the government announces the winners and gives them out at ceremonial events at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. This year, there are 128 winners, including two pairs (in a duo case, the award is counted as one).

For example, four Padma Vibhushans, 17 Padma Bhushan, and 107 Padma Shri awards were given to people who did good work. There are 34 women on the list, but there are also 10 people from outside the country, like NRIs and PIOs. There are also 13 posthumous winners.
