Pakistan to launch its first astronaut in 2022

Pakistan to launch its first astronaut in 2022Pakistan has announced that it will send its first astronaut to space by 2022. It will use China’s satellite launch facilities to achieve this.

Fawad Chaudhry, Pakistan’s Minister for Science and Technology, said that the selection process of the astronaut for the space mission would start from February 2020.

Mr Chaudhry said in a tweet that "this will be the biggest space event of our country,”.

The Pakistani Air Force will play a lead role in the selection process of the astronaut.
 	They will first select 50 pilots, from which 25 will be selected. Then finally, they will select the final 10 candidates.
 	The aim is that all 10 pilots will train as astronauts and eventually one of them will go to space.

Pakistan has been taking steps towards space missions in recent years.

In 2018, it launched two indigenously-built satellites, onboard the Chinese Long March (LM-2C) rocket. They launched the rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in the Gobi desert.
