PM Modi launches Indian Space Association
Recommended for Secondary Grades
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched the Indian Space Association (ISpA) via video conferencing.
This is an industry body representing the various stakeholders (participants) in the Indian space domain. They include the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Bharti Airtel, OneWeb, Tata Group’s Nelco, L&T, MapMyIndia and more.
This move has come as India is opening up the space sector to private players.
PM Modi said India is seeing reforms on such a wide scale because its vision is clear, which is about having an “Aatmanirbhar Bharat”.
He said the government’s approach to reforms in the space sector is based on the four pillars. They are: allowing the private sector freedom of innovation, government playing the enabler’s role, preparing youngsters for the future and envisioning the sector as a resource to help the common man’s development.
Moreover, as today is International Day of the Girl Child, PM Modi was hopeful that reforms in the space sector would encourage more women participation.

The ISpA also said it will help in making India self-reliant, technologically advanced and a leading player in the space arena.
The ISpA’s founding members include Larson & Toubro, Nelco (Tata Group), OneWeb, Bharti Airtel, Mapmyindia, Walchandnagar Industries and Ananth Technology Limited.
