PM Modi to attend Quad Summit in the US on 24 September
Recommended for Secondary Grades
Earlier we had read about the first-ever Quad Summit that was held online in March 2021.
What is the Quad Summit?
This summit is a meeting of the top leaders of India, Japan, Australia and the US. This alliance aims to counter China’s influence in the Indo-Pacific region.
Now, US President Joe Biden will be hosting the first in-person Quad Summit on 24 September 2021 in the US. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to the US to attend it. Moreover, the next day, on 25 September, PM Modi will also address the UN General Assembly in New York.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia and Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga of Japan will also attend the Quad Summit. The Summit will emphasize the importance of dealing with issues in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Quad Summit
The US administration also said that the Quad Leaders will be focused on deepening ties. They will also discuss advancing practical cooperation in areas such as combatting COVID-19 and the climate crisis.
The Quad Summit will be PM Modi’s first visit to the United States since Joe Biden became the President of the US. It will also be Modi’s first in-person meeting with Biden. During the trip, PM Modi will also meet other important US officials.
