Rare, large sea snail washes up on river bankPeople recently came across an unusually large sea snail near a river in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.

The sea snail is orange in colour and so large that people got very interested in it. It turns out that it is a type of sea snail called Syrinx aruanus. It is also called the Australian trumpet or false trumpet. The Australian trumpet is one of the largest snails on Earth. It usually lives in hot and humid places in the ocean.

Australian trumpet snails can weigh up to 18 kg. That's as heavy as a 4 or 5-year-old child! They can grow up to 70 cm. Because of its size, seashell collectors like collecting its shell. However, we do not know much about the sea snail's behaviour since it is very rare.

Sadly, the popularity of their shells also makes puts them in a lot of danger from seashell hunters. It seems people have also sold the recently-found sea snail above for about ₹18,000.
