RIMC allows admission to girl cadets in July

Dehradun’s Rashtriya Indian Military College(RIMC) completes 100 years of its establishment. On their Centennial Founders’ Day celebration, it is announced that five girl cadets will be admitted to the RIMC.
History of RIMC
Rashtriya Indian Military College(RIMC) was established on 13th March 1922. It was used to impart military training to the Indian youth. Ever since its establishment, RIMC has trained only boys and imparted basic education to students who aspire to serve the armed forces of the National Defence Academy(NDA).
RIMC’s procedure for selection
More than 500 girl cadets from all over the country participated in the entrance test organized by the Rashtriya Indian Military College. They made a committee and discussed all the factors and made the changes required to make the academy suitable for the girl students.
RIMC opens its doors for girl cadets
The admission of 5 girls cadets in the RIMC will bring a major change in society. The love for their country is selfless and everyone should be given equal opportunities. This step will add another golden chapter in the history of RIMC.
The first girl cadet to pass out from RIMC was Swarnima Thapliyal. She was the daughter of one of the faculty members at the college. She served well in the army and retired as a Major.
Thoughts about the decision
Women were always given a limited role in the armed forces. However, in the recent past, a lot of steps have been taken to bring a change in the armed forces bringing more inclusion. We read about women in the army and the airforce getting a permanent commission, women recruited as jawans in the military police. We believe that institutes opening doors for women is a good step.
More chances should be given to everyone equally, be it, boys or girls. More girls at the entry-level will ensure that we have more trained women for joining the Armed forces. Do you think there should be more seats in all the schools, which train students for the Armed forces?
