Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is nearly 77 years after the end of World War II. It has brought “shame” on the “historic sacrifices of its people,” according to G7 leaders. The G7 leaders sought to impose further sanctions on Russia.

Jill Biden and Olena Zelenska met in Ukraine. It was Mrs Biden’s first public appearance since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

What is G7?

G7 it is a group of seven of the world’s most developed countries. These countries are: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and the European Union.

What are sanctions?

Sanctions are fines or penalties imposed by one country on another in order to discourage that country from acting aggressively or breaking international law.

G7 sanctions on Russia!

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, 77 years after the end of World War II, has brought “shame” on the “historic sacrifices of its people,” according to a statement from the G7 leaders.

  • The G7 countries will lessen their dependence on energy from Russia. 
  • They also said they would “step up” their fight against Russian elites who support President Vladimir Putin.
  • The G7 leaders collectively looked down upon Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and believed it was a “shameful” act.
  • The leaders pledged that their respective countries will work harder to lessen the bad effects of the conflict.

United States sanctions on Russia!

Jill Biden and Olena Zelenska met in Ukraine. It was Mrs Biden’s first public appearance since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The meeting between the two first ladies took place at a school that is presently being utilised as a temporary shelter for internally displaced people, according to reports.

  • As a result of the Russian invasion, the United States imposed further sanctions on Russia, including visa restrictions on 2,600 Russian and Belarusian nationals, in response.
  • Washington has also sanctioned three Russian television stations as well as executives from the state-owned bank.

European Union sanctions on Russia!

The European Union (EU) is finalising the sixth set of sanctions on Russia, which include a gradual ban on the import of Russian oil. European countries rely on Russia for approximately 40% of their natural gas needs.

In addition, the United Kingdom announced a new set of penalties against Russia and Belarus, which will target £1.7 billion ($2.1 billion) in trade.
