Recommended for Middle Grades

In our article dated 28 February, we have shared with our little readers the Role of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, NASA and Roscosmos amongst other important areas.  In the article on Russia Ukraine Crisis – India update!, we’ll focus on some additional updates around Indian nationals who are caught in the ongoing crisis.

Kyiv – home to several Indian nationals

The Indian Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, urged Indian nationals to vacate Kyiv. The Indian Embassy tweeted,  “All Indian nationals, especially students, are advised to leave Kyiv urgently.”  The Indian nationals were advised to travel by any available trains. The urgency came in the light of a long Russian military convoy heading into Kyiv.

26 planes are scheduled to bring back Indian citizens stuck in conflict zones. In addition, the Indian government has been arranging planes to fetch back Indians who have crossed the border into Romania and Hungary.

Indian Nationals in Poland

The evacuation of Indians over the Poland border, which the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has identified as a “problem area”, has made some progress with close to 2,000 individuals, mainly students, preparing for evacuation.

There are tens of thousands of people on the ground (waiting at the border). The authorities are doing everything they can to assist the border patrols of both nations (Ukraine and Poland).

An unfortunate incident!

Naveen Shekharappa Gyanagoudar, a 20-year-old native of Karnataka, was a student at the University of Mysore. He was a Kharkiv National Medical University fourth-year medical student. The Ministry of External Affairs acknowledged the demise of the student. Political leaders in India offered their condolences to the family of the Indian student lost in Ukraine shelling.

Russia Ukraine Crisis – The love for dogs is priceless!

Arya, a native of Kerala and studying medicine at the National Pirogov Memorial Medical University in Ukraine. She was caught in the thick of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. She was compelled to abandon the institution, and leave to the safety of a neighbouring country.

However, she was determined not to leave Zaira, her Husky puppy, behind. Arya began preparing documentation for Zaira’s safe passage to India. After two days of extreme struggle and hardships,  Arya and Zaira are safe at an airport in Romania. They are preparing to join an evacuation flight to India.
