Scientists discover secret group of blue whalesBlue whales are the largest animals in the world. Sadly, today, blue whales are very less in number. This is because of people hunting them too much. So, scientists always keep a watch on them carefully.

One type of blue whale is the pygmy blue whale. It is slightly smaller than other members of its family. This whale lives in the Indian Ocean and the southern Pacific Ocean.

Recently, scientists have discovered a new group of pygmy blue whales in the Indian Ocean.

And how did the scientists find them? By using an instrument that usually helps detect nuclear weapons underwater.

The instrument recorded sounds in the ocean. When scientists studied them, they heard a new whale song they had never heard before. This led to them finding the new group. The group is now called the Chagos population.

Despite their huge size, experts say that blue whales are hard to find in the ocean. It is because the ocean is very big and whales often stay alone.
