Sports news: Manchester City win fourth consecutive EFL cup

English football club Manchester City won their fourth consecutive EFL Cup yesterday. They beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 to win the final. City have now matched Liverpool’s feat of winning the competition for four seasons in a row. They also join Liverpool with the most League Cup wins on eight.

What is the EFL Cup?

The EFL Cup is also known as the League Cup or Carabao Cup. It is an annual knockout football competition in men’s domestic English football.

English football clubs will also stage a three-day social media boycott next weekend as part of a protest against racism. They include clubs in the Premier League, English Football League and Women’s Super League.

2021 Archery World Cup

India had its best-ever show in a World Cup as Indian archers won three golds and one bronze. This is the tournament’s first stage and it is being held in Guatemala City, the capital of Guatemala.

The 2021 Archery World Cup will have four events. They will run from 19 April to 2 September 2021.

Tennis

Rafael Nadal beat Stefanos Tsitsipas on Sunday to win the Barcelona Open. This is Nadal’s 12th Barcelona Open title. It is also Nadal’s first title of the year and 87th of his career.

After 5 matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings are currently on top, together with Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The three teams have lost only one match each till now. Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad are at the bottom.

The IPL has been criticised for continuing even as people are suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic. Some IPL players have also withdrawn, including India star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
