Independence Day of Sri Lanka or National Day, is a Sri Lankan national holiday celebrated annually on 4 February. The day is celebrated to commemorate its independence from British rule on February 04, 1948.
 
The event was presided over by President of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Cabinet Ministers, State Ministers, Members of Parliament, foreign diplomats and senior government officials.
  • The three branches of the military perform an impressive parade and other defence displays. The artists and students showcase the major dance forms of the country including Kandyan and Bharatnatyam.
  • The President of Sri Lanka releases his Independence Day message on National Day.
  • Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa gives a speech to encourage the nation to work towards building a robust economy and a stable government for the future generations of Sri Lanka.
