Sudan has more ancient pyramids than Egypt

Where is the country of Sudan located?

Sudan (or the Republic of North Sudan) is located in North Africa, bordering Egypt. It is the third-largest country in Africa.

While Egypt is famous for its pyramids, Sudan has more ancient pyramids than Egypt. It has 220 pyramids. So, this makes Sudan the country with the most pyramids.

Today, many adventure seekers travel to Sudan to see the pyramids. They are found in the eastern desert of Sudan and are part of the Nubian Pyramids. They are also called the Meroe pyramids and they are a bit smaller than their Egyptian cousins.

Nubian Pyramids

The Nubian Pyramids were built by the rulers of the ancient Kushite kingdoms. The area where the Kingdom of Kush existed is where the country of Sudan stands today. In many aspects, the Kingdom of Kush was very similar to Ancient Egypt.

Sudan in modern history

Sudan was under Egypt and Britain for a long time. After that, it suffered the turmoil of civil war for a long time, which led to the separation of South Sudan from Sudan.

However, after its independence, the country has regained its ancient glory. Sudan has become a pleasant surprise for many sightseeing visitors. Many people are usually surprised when they find out that Sudan has more ancient pyramids than Egypt.
