Tamil Nadu bans single-use plastic in the Nilgiri districtNilgiri district in Tamil Nadu has announced a ban on single-use plastic throughout the district from 15th August 2019.
Nilgiri district is located in the Western Ghats.  It has many hill stations including the popular hill station 'Ooty'.

Madras High Court passed an order on the plastic ban last month. Nilgiri's district collectors have been informed to ban the entry of all kinds of plastic packages into the district.
 	The ban applies to the sale of all single-use plastic items like water bottles, soft drinks and plastic wrappers used to pack food items.
 	Single-use plastic items will also be banned from entry into the Nilgiris and tourists will not be allowed to bring any such items.
 	Tourists are asked to use recyclable plastic containers for water and food.

The government is planning to set up RO (Reverse Osmosis) water purifier stations along the highways leading to Ooty and at major tourist spots.
