Teenager chess Grandmaster Gukesh D overthrows Magnus Carlsen!

Grandmaster Gukesh D makes chess history by defeating Magnus Carlsen. Gukesh D is only 16 years old. Magnus Carlsen is a world champion. Thus the victory makes Gukesh the youngest player to win against Magnus Carlsen.
Gukesh accomplished this by defeating Magnus in the ninth round of the Aimchess Rapid tournament.
There are a total of 16 players competing in the Aimchess Rapid tournament, which is a part of the Meltwater Champions tour. Of those sixteen players, five are from India.
Key highlights from the Chess Champions tournament!
- The 16-year-old from Chennai defeated Magnus with white pieces.
- This moves Gukesh to third place with a total of 21 points.
- In second and third place in the chess tournament are Poland’s Jan-Krzystof Duda (25 points) and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan, 23 points) respectively.
- The 29-move dismantling of the world champion by Gukesh comes a day after his 19-year-old compatriot Arjun Erigaisi posted a first-ever victory over the world champion.
- Gukesh’s victory over the world champion is his first.
- Arjun Erigaisi is tied with Gukesh with the same number of points (21) .
- Gukesh continues what has been an excellent year so far for the young Indian players.
- He became the third one to beat Carlsen, following in the footsteps of Praggnanandhaa and Erigaisi, who did so at the Julius Baer Generation Cup online event.
- Gukesh’s victory over Carlsen continued what has been an excellent year so far for the young Indian players.
- World champion Carlsen is currently in fifth place in the tournament.
