The government announces plan to launch ‘One Nation One Ration Card’The central government is planning to launch the 'One Nation One Ration Card (ONOR)' scheme by 30th June 2020.

Under this scheme, the beneficiaries will be able to access ration shops anywhere in the country, provided their Aadhar card is linked to the ONOR Card.
 	With this scheme in effect, they will not be tied to only one PDS (Public Distribution System) shop.
 	This scheme will be most useful for poor migrant workers who move from place to place looking for better job opportunities and can also reduce corruption.

Ration shops provide grains, pulses, sugar and other essentials at subsidised (reduced) rates, which people can buy if they have a ration card.

Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said that the state governments need to fast track the work to launch ONOR scheme so that everything is ready by 30th June 2020.

They have been given a year to equip all the ration shops with Point of sale machines.
 	At the moment, 10 states already offer portability.
 	State governments have also been given 6 months to bring the operations of their depots and warehouses online so that the entire network of state-owned grain storage facilities can be monitored.
 	The central warehouses are already computerised.

However, the DMK party opposes this central government scheme stating that public distribution of ration staples is the right of the state government, and the Centre shouldn't try to interfere.
