The Statue of Liberty in the US will get a “Little Sister”Have you heard of the Statue of Liberty?

This is a very famous big statue in New York, US. The statue is 93 metres tall and is green in colour. It shows a figure Libertas, a robed Roman liberty goddess holding a torch above her head. The statue was a gift by France to the US.

Today, it is seen as a symbol of freedom, welcoming people to America. Moreover, it is also one of New York City's most popular tourist spots and gets more than 4 million visitors every year.
'Little Sister'
This year, on 4 July (Independence Day in the US), France is giving another special gift. It is a much smaller copy of the Statue of Liberty,  nicknamed "Little Sister".

They will show the statue from 1 to 5 July 2021 on Ellis Island, opposite the Statue of Liberty. Then, they will keep it at the French Embassy in the capital, Washington D.C.

The statue is about 3 metres tall, which is 16 times smaller than the original Statue of Liberty. It celebrates the friendship between the US and France.
