This beetle can walk upside down on the underside of water

This beetle can walk upside down on the underside of waterMany insects can walk on water but a particular beetle has a talent that is a little bit more amazing.

This beetle is called a water scavenger beetle and scientists have found that it can walk upside down on the underside of water. It is the first beetle known to walk this way.

What does this mean? It means that the beetle lies under the water surface, and walks on it from below as if it was walking on a glass window!
How did scientists discover this?
John Gould, a scientist in Australia, discovered this by accident one night when he was looking for tadpoles (baby frogs). When he was searching, he saw a tiny black insect in the water. He thought maybe the insect fell into the water and was swimming in there. But when he looked closer, it was actually walking upside-down under the water surface.

Scientists are not sure how the beetle can do this exactly. But they think that it takes the help of air bubbles.

This surprising discovery shows us how even the smallest animals can do amazing things. But we often miss them because we are not paying attention.
