- Silver torch cactus is also known as Cleistocactus strausii and woolly torch cactus.
- It is native to South America and found in the high mountain regions of Bolivia and Argentina.
- The cactus has slim, straight and grey-green columns, which are covered in white spines and can reach a height of 3 metres.
- Only older plants blossom deep red and burgundy cylindrical flowers, which grow from the cactus’s stem.
- The Silver Torch cactus thrives in soils that drain well and receive a lot of direct sunlight, but it cannot tolerate temperatures that are too warm.
- In addition to this, it is unaffected by the low levels of nitrogen in the soil in which it can thrive.
- Because it does not need to be watered on a consistent basis, it can also be kept as a houseplant.
