UU Lalit is India’s 49th Chief Justice!

UU Lalit is appointed as the Chief Justice of India (CJI) on 27 August 2022. Justice UU Lalit is set to retire on November 8, which will be the end of his relatively short time in office. His office term will last for nearly three months.

The 48th CJI, NV Ramana retired in August and witnessed significant verdicts. The four key judgments were Internet Access a Fundamental Right, ED’s powers under the PMLA Act, Probe into Pegasus surveillance case and Sedition law on hold.

What is main function of the Chief Justice of India?

The chief justice of India is the highest-ranking officer in the Indian law.

The President of India appoints the Chief Justice of India and the other judges to the Supreme Court. The President has to take the advice of at least four of the most senior judges on the Supreme Court to take his decision.

  • In 1983, Justice Lalit began to work as a lawyer.
  • Justice U U Lalit took the oath of office needed to become the 49th Chief Justice of India (CJI).
  • Our President Droupadi Murmu was in charge of the swearing-in ceremony. 
  • He said that he would work hard to make the listing of cases as easy and clear as possible.
  • He also said that he would make it easier to bring important things to the court’s attention by “mentioning.”
  • Lastly, he would try to make sure that at least one Constitution bench is working all year long.
  • Justice Lalit has testified in a number of high-profile cases, such as the blackbuck case against actor Salman Khan and the road rage case against cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Sidhu.
